Newbie from UK - pewe - 28-02-2014 Buonasera tutti, I'm based in Reading UK but have joined your forum as my wife and I visit Italy once or twice a year. (My apologies for writing in English, although I speak some Italian my written Italian is not strong and I don't trust Google's translations!) Italy is our favourite destination so much so that our adult children tell us there are other places to visit. We always answer that there may be but we are so comfortable visiting la Bella it feels like home. That's probably because years ago we lived and worked in Milan. I run a 1991 Eunos 1.6 and was lucky enough to purchase it two years ago from only the third UK owner. It was imported to the UK by Moss Europe. In fact if you have a Moss catalogue showing a red Mk1 that's the same car. Moss imported it as a show vehicle to demonstrate their products. They fitted it with a body kit and other accessories. Their main interest however was using it to develop their supercharger kit. Moss and the previous owner developed it so that it now reliably produces 161 BHP at the wheels. Adding frame rails, suspension braces, Torsen diff and most recently the latest Meister R coil-overs means it handles better than any other car I've driven (and I've driven quite a few!). We tour mainly Northern Italy coming over the mountains from France which gives the opportunity to really explore the cars capabilities. Our favourite destination is around la Spezia as this allows some exciting driving in the mountains, particularly behind Carrara. We have been to Autodromo R. Paletti a few times but the best event was last year when we followed the GP Nuvolari from Mantua to Imola on the first afternoon. I'll try to attach a picture of an Italian registered MX5 we parked next to in Iper Coop, Sarzana last year - anyone on here? We are thinking about a trip in May as we would like to attend the MotoGP in Mugello. If that's not possible then almost certainly we'll be over in September. Ciao and safe driving, Pewe. Their tarmac status is probably worse than an afghan trail, but once you get used to, they make you really enjoy your mx5/miata/eunos. since you named La Spezia, coming from france, have you ever tried the mountain roads just above Sanremo and Arma di Taggia? (Rally di Sanremo.... you know what I mean? ![]() I like vintage cars a lot, and in May there will be two of the major events here in Italy. check for them here: http://www.garedepoca.com hope to see you here, maybe to have nice drive with some other mx5s :hi_: Newbie from UK - IAPPO - 02-03-2014 pewe Ha scritto:Buonasera tutti, I'm based in Reading UK but have joined your forum as my wife and I visit Italy once or twice a year. Hi pewe! I live near Carrara, and I see why you like those roads so much. Ever tried the "linea d'arni"? https://www.google.it/maps/dir/Seravezza+LU/Massa+MS/@44.0249996,10.2528531,13z/data=!4m24!4m23!1m15!1m1!1s0x12d50b1261affea1:0x11bd0f9b73c9b71f!2m2!1d10.2300959!2d43.9941134!3m4!1m2!1d10.2427867!2d43.9946839!3s0x12d50b3f49ef9565:0x8e8c483dcdb678fc!3m4!1m2!1d10.2699286!2d44.0560908!3s0x12d572d660d7bde1:0x6012d1cd5d1c0a30!1m5!1m1!1s0x12d508d15db58463:0xab0f854db9fbaab2!2m2!1d10.1393443!2d44.0353943!3e0 You should check it out if you ever come near here, it's a very twisty road with an awesome scenery. Just pay a little attention if you're doing it any day other than sunday, as there are trucks going up and down all day. If you like walking, there's a few miles of paths around here, with yet again some good scenery to look at ![]() You could consider popping up to say hello to one of our events, they are mostly in northern/central Italy |
