Some more photos today - it has been taken off the road for the winter whilst I work on her; initial focus is to tear down the front of the engine and do a full cam belt/water pump and seals as previous owner had the cam belt changed but they didn't do a thorough enough job for me.
Bodywork is in great condition, with no rust at all. Plan to do a fully rust proof with dinitrol products before putting it back on the road.
M2-1001 badge:
Door inner, you can see where the optional leather drivers satchel would have mounted. In time I will get a replica made up to fit in the original place.
Also the original aluminium door latches have been replaced with the standard plastic ones. Apparently they are prone to snapping - already on the case of getting replacements from Japan.
Dash is also in good condition. Mark on the top of the dash is just sticky residue where a cup holder lived (marked as M2-1001 - not sure if it's genuine, eitherway it wasn't for me).
Seats are for the slender Japanese figure and thus very tight!
Alu roll bar with original padded cover:
Another interior shot:
Indicators and 15" Panasports (specific to the M2-1001 / M2-1002 due to the custom offset).
Plaque covers where the standard mirror mounted - the passenger-side bullet mirror is mounted further forward.
Proper aero fuel cap with integral lock. Plus original M2-1001 keys.
Engine is in need of some TLC, which is where I am focussing my efforts for the time being.
Uprated cams "9B1A" (possibly sourced from Mazdaspeed). Combined with flat-top pistons, different ECU and RX-7 AFM produce 15bhp more than the stock 1.6.
