Ever dreamt of buying a very fast, very agile MX-5 with the ability to reliably dominate exotic sportscars, straight from Mazda? Well, now you can.
Just days ago, Mazda Motors UK and Jota Sport announced their turnkey Mazda MX-5 GT4, fully built to order for use inGT4 European Cup racing. Features include a 320hp, turbocharged 2.0L Mazda MZR engine; paddle-shifted 6-speed sequential transmission; carbon-fiber doors, front splitter, rear diffuser, wing, dashboard, and center[FONT=verdana] console; FIA-spec roll cage; Pi Omega D2 display and data logger; 4-way adjustable dampers; 2,200-lb curb weight; and 0-60 acceleration in 3.0 seconds.
At about $197,000 and only available in the UK, it's not for everyone. But in the words of Sam Hignett, Managing Director of Jota Group, "... It is going to be a front runner in any GT4 field."
What we want to know is: Should a production, road-going, high-performance Mazda MX-5 variant be in our line-up? How would you design one with cost, performance, and reliability in mind?
