"You can't use a temp spare on the rear of a Miata that has limited slip diff. This can cause damage to the LSD since the circumference of the spare is less than the opposite rear tire. In that situation just remove the front front tire place it on the rear and put spare on the front."
I have the RX-8 spare, and blew a hole in the sidewall of my new tire. It was on the the rear and I'd never heard of not using the mini (I have LSD) I put it on and drove home, about 6 miles. No problems (about 8 months ago) and the car drove pretty normally without any pulling, etc. with it on. The outside diameter of the mini isn't much different than the low profile OEM tire, so swapping to keep it on the front is the best course, as i know now, but no instant destruct for a short distance.
"What you're trying to avoid is two different tires on the LSD axle, turning at different speeds causes possible wear problems if continous. But then again, that's what axles do, when going around a curve or turn the wheels turn at different rates. Just philosophizing and confident someone will diplomatically point out my error if wrong. ( watch these guys now)"
